Our services.

Chances are if you are here because you already know us you have a good idea of what we can do, you understand where a Structure Engineer or Building Conservation and Refurbishment Specialist might fit into a built environment project. But we may have a few skills beyond the normal structural engineer that we enjoy sharing.

We believe in explaining things simply so that anyone travelling through can understand what we do.

Structural Design

We apply the laws of physics and material science to ensure a client or architects’ vision (building) can physically stand up and function as it needs to.

Based on location of the building, we ensure it is strong and resilient enough to withstand what a climate might throw at it. Commonly this is strong winds and heavy snow, but we also consider climate change events such as flooding and extremes of temperature.

We then figure out how heavy the people, equipment and furniture can be on the floors and roofs, based on how the building is going to be used.

Putting all this together, we then work out how big all the elements need to be and how they should fit together. We put all this information on drawings and reports for our clients to use.

Conservation + Refurbishment

We enjoy reusing and reinvigorating old buildings and structures; to lengthen their lives and maybe give them new purpose. Building materials are a valuable resource which we should seek to reuse and recycle, as with our normal household rubbish. The best way to achieve this, with the least impact on the environment, is in their as-built form. Whether it be making an old home comfortable for our modern day lives or taking an old building that doesn’t work in its original form and giving it a new use such as a city centre industrial mill building into a shared workplace.

Another strand to this is the conservation of our heritage, the story it tells and the value we place in it.

We use our experience to research, understand, assess and propose solutions to conserve and refurbish these buildings, sensitively and economically. We can prepare listed building applications, heritage impact statements, repair details, and new structural engineering solutions to give these places a future.
